The client wanted an algorithm capable of taking in a full-color image and modifying it so that it would use less black ink when printed with an inkjet printer. This process was not allowed to significantly alter the appearance of the original image and was estimated to save customer's up to $200 a year on cartridge costs. The client also wanted a feature capable of reducing the amount of color ink used when printing.

This was an even greater challenge because simple changes in the contrast and brightness are not enough to maintain truly vivid colors. I delivered a .NET solution that successfully performed all of the above. Client lab-testing showed that my processes resulted in a 45% reduction of black ink usage and a 32% saving in color ink, well within their targets.
